The Committee for Ethnic Affairs (CEA) had their first meeting of the New Year on Thursday, January 6. 2011 in the Auditorium of the Executive Office Building, located at 101 Monroe Avenue, in Rockville Maryland.

The Committee for Ethnic Affairs meets on the first Thursday of every month to advise the County Executive and the County Council in matters of public policy relating to the County's diverse communities. By emphasizing the richness of the County's linguistic and cultural diversity, the Committee for Ethnic Affairs promotes interaction among the many groups that represent these communities

The upcoming Martin Luther King – Day of Service was discussed.  Several events are scheduled to take place throughout Montgomery County over the holiday weekend of January 15 – 17, 2011.  Including a collection for Manna Food at several Giant Food stores throughout Montgomery County where several of the CEA members will be volunteering their time.

The upcoming Chinese New Year and Black History Month in February were also discussed briefly with more details to come.

Enas Elhanafi and Lisa Austin updated the group on the status of the County Executive Report and the upcoming meeting between CEA representatives and the County Executive, Mr. Ike Leggett.  This meeting will take place on Thursday evening, February 10, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. in the Executive Office Building (EOB) cafeteria.  This meeting is open to the public as are all of the meetings of the Committee for Ethnic Affairs.
